Tara WatergateHotel is a quaint 14 room hotel nestled along the magnificent Tissa wewa’ (reservoir) in the Deep South of Sri Lanka. Built by an entrepreneurial young lady whose love for the environment inspired her to build the hotel in this salubrious location, overcoming great challenges in getting the project off the ground.

Today it is a much sort out hideaway for many locals who want to escape from the stress of city living. It is also quite popular with discerning tourists who want peace and quiet amidst a natural environment.
The hotel is renowned for its authentic local cuisine and most of the vegetables used in the food preparation are from their own organic garden.

The unique infinity pool, which blends with thereservoir  is the focal point of the hotel. The elegantly furnished well equipped rooms augment the product offering.

In keeping with their focus on sustainability, the hotel uses firewood collected from the surrounding scrub jungle for some of their cooking. The hotel uses LED lighting and solar panels for generating hot water for guest use. Most activities for guests are organized in the open, in natural settings. Cooking classes conducted by the chef is an activity in demand by guests.

In an effort to help with the prevailing shortage of fuel, they offer pick up for guests from the intercity highway express bus stop at Hambantota. In this manner they are also helping guests to travel under these difficult circumstances and also help them reduce their carbon footprint during their vacation.
